I I have been fascinated with the Japanese traditional culture since my youth. I studied it academically, initially in Russia, where I was born and spent the first half of my life, and later in Japan where I have lived permanently for 20 years. I earned my Ph.D. in pre-modern Japanese history and published a number of academic articles and a monograph in the field. I also became a teacher of Japanese swordsmanship, Kendo. Quite late in my life, I have embarked on picturing Japan's nature and historical sites through fine art photography.

Tenho estado fascinado com a cultura tradicional japonesa desde a minha juventude. Estudei-a academicamente inicialmente na Rússia, onde nasci e passei a primeira metade da minha vida, e mais tarde no Japão, onde tenho vivido permanentemente durante quase 20 anos. Obtive o meu doutoramento em história pré-moderna japonesa e publiquei uma série de artigos académicos e uma monografia na área. Tornei-me também professor de espadachim japonês. Kendo. Muito tarde na minha vida. Comecei a capturar a natureza e a cultura do Japão através da fotografia de belas artes.
